How do I Disable the touchpad on my laptop?

By Hajiroku ·
I am running Windows XP and I wanted to know if there is a way of blocking the touch pad on my laptop? I also want to know if there is a way to keep someone from clicking on a program I have open in the task bar or just running in general?

You can find the touchpad in the device manager, right click it and choose disable.

As for preventing 'someone from clicking on a program I have open in the task bar', just what do you mean by that? Are you walking away from your computer leaving it unattended so that others could walk by and 'click on' something'? If so, that's a very bad practice to get into.

Presuming you're running Windows, before you get up to walk away from the computer, you can press and hold the Windows key then the letter L to LOCK the computer. You will need to provide your user password when you return.

How many users are sitting at your laptop ?...

It seems rather odd to want to disable the entries in your taskbar/systray when they are all apearing on the screen of a LAPTOP.

If, for whatever reason, you are in the habit of getting up and walking away from your laptop (not a practice I would recommend) why don't you simply LOCK your screen, then unless a password is entered, no-one can access anything on it.

As for the touchpad, you can disable it from 'Device Manager', from 'Control Panel/Mouse' or you should have a Fn+KEY combination that will toggle the touchpad OFF/ON straight from your keyboard. Look for an icon on a number key that looks like a pointing hand.
