I'm running a program called Jonas on a windows 98-se O/S. Jonas is Dos based program used by some Golf and country clubs to track members activities, why recently I'v been getting errors that we have excceded user limit even when only one personis connected. I've had to go to the drive that Jonas resides on remove the share and re-share the drive but when I do that I get an error telling me that there are users still connected and that there are files still open even when all users are loged off can you please help me.
Thanks
Ernest

Ernest, I don't know about Jonas, but I look after a dos-type database which also counts the number of connected users. If one of the users is disconnected - either by a power-out or by accident - the main machine still thinks that they are connected and counts them as a logged-on user. It could be that your machine has been shut down without exiting properly from Jonas and when the box reboots, Jonas still has the record of the last valid connection.
Many times I've had files declare that they are in use and can't be opened, even when I know that no one has them opened. This happens because the file did not get closed out properly.
I use a small, FREE utlity to find out who the server thinks has a file open, and then close the connection. This of course frees up the file and in your case will then free up the number of users.
The utility is from WWW.MERXSOFT.COM and is called ofl.exe. I have set up batch files on my computer so that I can close files on the servers from my desktop. I also have batch files that show me who the servers think have files open, but does not close the connection. Read about the command line switches and you'll see how useful this utility is.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
