How do I reinstall IIS on NT 4.0?

By mrawson ·
I'm trying to setup Outlook Web Access and it looks like IIS was somehow uninstalled. Can I just install IIS over NT without having to reinstall my entire OS?
I'm looking for the simplest approach I can find here.
Thanks!

How do I reinstall IIS on NT 4.0?

If you have the standalone version of IIS you can simply install over it. IF you added it via BackOffice... that's a different story then. You may, however, have to re-install any snap-ins you have already added.

Let me know how it works, but I'm certain you won't have any probs.

you can install IIS like evry other sevice: right click over network neighborhood --> properties --> sevices --> IIS --> add...
and so on.
If you got a problem with that you can try option pack 4.Assuming you are using Exchange 5.5 I also recommend to install service pack 3 if you are using OWA.
Have a nice day.

That makes sense but when I try go to Add this service it doesn't even show in my list of available services. I installed Option Pack 4 and have SP3 for Exchange 5.5 but haven't installe d that yet. My Exchange Server book shows the path to be http://exchange server name/exchange/logon.asp for OWA. Is that correct?

You need not reinstall the OS to install IIS again. Just make sure u do not have IIS service running by checking out the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel.

Then run your installation file from your source for IIS regular installation. As for SP3, it is a pre-requisite. Anything higher will also do.

For OWA, make sure your users have log on to this computer access to your exchange server.

I don't show IIS in my add/remove programs either, but I can access the IIS now via the Programs menu and MMC after installing Option Pack 4. I also found that I didn't have OWA installed as a component in Exchange which obviously didn't help me either. I can get in now but I still can't figure out why I don't show Microsoft Internet Information Services running only the IIS Admin.

Here ya go, IIS Is part of the NT Options kit. If you don't have it go to this link here. http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/NT4OptPk/default.asp and d/l it. You might wan't to think about IIS 5.0 it's out now also. Just a thought.
Good Luck
Mike

I appreciate the direction and I did install Option Pack 4, I still don't show the MS Internet Information Services running only IIS Admin. I had to reinstall the OWA as well and now I can get in.
Thanks,
Melissa
