How do I setup TFTP?

By ITroubleshoot ·
I have a Dell 3048 switch that is giving me problems. It keeps going dumb and has to be reset for connections to get through. I figure upgrading the firmware might help before I call Dell. I've downloaded the upgrade but the instructions state to use an TFTP server and have the switch point to it for the upgrade to work upon the next boot.

How do I setup a TFTP server for this to work?

I use the Solar Winds TFTP server to TFTP my router configs from/to.

http://www.solarwindsuk.net/toolsets/solarwinds-tftp-server.htm
(please remove any spaces)

Just install it, run it, and set it to allow inbound and outbound connections, then from your router run COPY RUN TFTP to copy the running-config to the TFTP server.
You will be prompted for the IP address of the TFTP Server, as well as the file name you want to save the running-config as.

hope this helps

The Shuttle FTP suite includes a TFTP server. You can download the suite at
http://www.waveflow.com/shuttleftp/
I used it for the first time about 2 months ago, also being new to TFTP.
Once installed, just click the icon for "TFTP srv" and let it know which directory to store files in. [It starts the server immediately, so don't wait for a message to tell you that it is ON.]
Then, just use your IP address for the TFTP server.
