How do I stop Certain Emails

By admin ·
I am getting emails that contain viruses, I delete these immedialtly, and they are back in my "inbox" in less then 5 minutes, they are the same ones over and over. How can I stop this from happening???? There are about 8 emails, and they come in 2's or more per email.

What email program are you using? Most have filtering or rules options, which allow you to delete messages upon arrival in your inbox based on conditions you specify, like specific words in the title.

Be careful with this though, becuase if, forexample, you used this method when the "Hi" virus was around, and specified to delete messages with Hi in the title, it would delete any message with Hi in it. For example, if it was titled "Highlights From Last Meeting", it would be deleted.

Your email has also entered a loop. It is repeatedly popping up in my inbox just like the other original 5 emails. While at lunch the inbox received 137 emails. All just repeats of your message and the other five.

I am unsure what program you are using, but if you use Outlook and use POP3 to access some server that has your mail stored, the default setting is to leave a copy of the message on the server. Thus, the message is never really deleted.
If you are using Outlook and POP3, check your account settings and make sure that "leave a copy on the server" is NOT checked.

Thank you for your reply but we are not on a server our mail is linked to a website. We do use Outlook Express. The setting is mail.aicnet.org for both POP3 and SMTP with Port numbers being POP3 - 110 and SMTP - 25. I am still receiving 100's of emails per day that are nothing by repeats of all messages received since the problem started.

Your first sentence tells you what you need to do. Either install antivirus software on the machines or update your current antivirus definitions. The virus is not only in the emails but has already infected your machine and if this is a company machine, I would suspect your entire network is infected by now.

We already have Norton AntiVirus 2002 and has been updated on a regular basis. A Virus Scan has been performed by Norton and special scans for Nimrad and Klez have been performed. No one elses machines are effected, only mine.

I don't know if this will help, but the mail has to come from somewhere (mail.aicnet.org server). You didn't mention if you checked your settings or not, but if the mail that you download to OE isn't removed from the originating mail server that OE got the mail from (mail.aicnet.org), the mail will seem to keep coming in, like a loop. OE downloads a copy of the mail by default (for POP3), and leaves the original mail where it got it from.

Do you have a web-based interface to that mail account (mail.aicnet.org), like yahoo mail or hotmail does? A web url you can go to and pull up mail without a client like OE? If so, go to the web page and pull up your mail and see if all the messages are there. If so, OE isn't communicating a delete message and is leaving copies in the originating server.
I had that problem with my yahoo account.

How often do you have Outlook Express set to download messages? You need to go to the Properties of each account, on the "Advanced" tab and make sure the checkmark for keeping a copy of your mail on the server isn't checkmarked. If so, UNcheck it.
