You need to fdisk the master boot record by typing fdisk /mbr. Next fdisk and format the c: drive. You will then be able to install Windows 98.

You cannot remove the linux partitions with a dos FDISK. You must boot up with the Linux installation disk and from within the installation, go into fdisk and remove the partitions. There is a command in the linux fdisk to create a new, empty DOS partition table. Use that command. Write the changes to the disk, then reboot. Then, you’ll need to do a dos FDISK /MBR. Then you can install Win9x, NT, etc…

      The safest method is:

      boot linux, run /sbin/lilo -u

then run fdisk and remove Linux partitions

      Then boot Win99

run win98’s fdisk and create Win partitions
then you’re ready to install the “beast”
