how do you backup Outlook Express email

By hippy ·
I can locate my *.wab and back that up, but where are my emails stored? What are they called? How can I back them up without physically dragging and dropping them onto a disk?

backing up outlook express

by chris In reply to how do you backup Outlook ...

The messages are buried in the c:\windows directory (unless you are on a network with roaming profiles - then see your network admin).

Co to c:\windows\Application Data\Identities\{folder with lots of leters and numbers as its name}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

All of the files in the outlook express folder are in there. Usually called inbox.dbx etc.

a third party recommendation

A painless solution I found is using software express assist 6.0 www.ajsystems.com. There is a full trial download version at the site.
Backup and restore everything. Works well. Even if you just use it once or twice.

Finding Outlook Express Folder

by RCOM In reply to how do you backup Outlook ...

Simple to do. In Outlook Express 6.0 select the tools menu (alt,T) then choose options. From the tabs across the top select "Maintenance" there's a button called "Store Folder" located close to the bottom, click the button press "alt,F" then highlight the path and and copy it. Close Outlook Express and paste the directory path into the address bar in Explorer select "GO" or hit enter, when it opens select all the files and copy them to the desired location.
