How Do You Balance Speed vs. Quality in Software Development?

    by kevinasutton5 ·

Quick question that’s been on my mind: how do you personally find the balance between shipping fast and maintaining quality?

I know deadlines are real, but so is tech debt. Do you push for speed or take time to get it right? Would love to hear how you handle this in your workflow or team.

    Let’s share thoughts.

Ask the people that are paying for the work.

For me it was never a huge concern of mine because the client set the balance.

Great question, Kevin! In my experience, the key to balancing speed and quality is setting clear priorities and building in short, iterative cycles—think agile sprints with frequent testing and code reviews. We ship smaller, functional features quickly to meet deadlines, but always include time for refactoring and addressing tech debt in future cycles. It’s about delivering value fast without ignoring long-term maintainability.
