How do you list internships on a resume?

How do you list internships on a resume?
If you list them as a job in your history, is it being misleading? If you use the word "internship", I have been told several times that the internship cannot be counted towards job related experience.
Any suggestions??

Internships

by timwalsh In reply to How do you list internshi ...

I view an internship as on-the-job-training.

Each employer may have their own view as to whether this should count as job experience.

If you feel uncomfortable listing an internship under work experience, you should at least list it under education or training.

The worst possible thing to do would be to give a potential employer the impression that you aren't telling the truth (by not listing it as an internship).

The next worst possible thing to do would be to not list it at all.

My suggestion:
List it under work experience. Cleary identify it as an internship. Let the potential employer determine whether he considers it work experience or training. Just because you list the experience in the wrong portion of your resume (in his eyes anyway) shouldn't necessarily prevent you from getting a job.
