How does Cloud Access Security Broker work for non-browser applications?

We are considering the use of a cloud-based file transfer as a service. The service will host an SFTP server for us. From our data centers, our employees will transfer files to the server. Our clients from their own data centers will access the files our employees have uploaded.
We would like to have a CASB between our data center and the SFTP service on cloud. This is a non-browser access. How can we make this access go through a CASB? We would like to track the files being uploaded and prevent upload of certain types of files and hence the need for a CASB. How are such non-browser cases handled by CASBs?
