It is my understanding that the A+ certification is good for life. Years back I acquired the Network+ certification and if I remember right it does not have any expiration either. This may be a CompTIA approach to certification as Microsoft, Cisco and many others, all have expiration dates.

Having 'achieved' an A+ in 2000.

If the holder of an A+ from 2000 isn't any better at their job by 2009, they're not likely to be worth employing. By the same token I'm rather amused that any employer would look back that far for a Certificate that has little more value than a lollipop wrapper.
