How should I migrate to Exchange 2000?

Running Exchange 5.5 sp4. Have a new machine with W2K Adv. Srv. w/AD. that I want to install Exchange 2000 on. I want to keep all my existing mailboxes, DL’s, Public folders, etc. and move them to the new Exchange 2000 server. I have NetIQ’s Exchange Migrator. Should I join the new machine to the existing 5.5 site and migrate from there? Or, should I use NetIQ to migrate from the 5.5 machine to the new machine with Exchange 2000? Thanks!
