How should I migrate to Exchange 2000?

By r_p_mann ·
Running Exchange 5.5 sp4. Have a new machine with W2K Adv. Srv. w/AD. that I want to install Exchange 2000 on. I want to keep all my existing mailboxes, DL's, Public folders, etc. and move them to the new Exchange 2000 server. I have NetIQ's Exchange Migrator. Should I join the new machine to the existing 5.5 site and migrate from there? Or, should I use NetIQ to migrate from the 5.5 machine to the new machine with Exchange 2000? Thanks!

How should I migrate to Exchange 2000?

The ideal thing to do is to make the new Exchange box join an existing site for simplicity. Alternatively you could service pack your WIN2K server to SP3, install Exchnage 5.5 to join an existing site, move all the mailboxes to the new WIN2K server, then upgrdae Exchange on the WIN2K server to 2000.
