How to automate product key in sysprep??

By todd_brodie ·
We're a mid-sized non profit that is about to begin a rollout of new PC's running Windows 2000. One main problem I've come across is using the Sysprep v1.1 tool to automate the setup. We're using Norton Ghost v7.5 with this as well. However, I can't seem to automate the product key portion of the Mini-setup wizard. Everything else is fully automated. I've tried the following:

Under the [UserData] section of sysprep.inf, I've used the ProductID="abc123" where abc123 is either the actualproduct key. I've also tried it where abc123 is the product identification number. I've even tried it with ProductID=" abc12- abc12- abc12- abc12- abc12" as it states in the Win2k unattended install instructions.

I'm at a loss on what to try next. I greatly appreciate the assistance!

QUOTED FROM Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The ProductID value is missing under the [UserData] section of the Answer file tend.txt).

If you select the Fully Automated option on the User Interaction page of the Windows 2000 Setup Manager Wizard, you must manually add the ProductID value under the [UserData] section of the Winnt.sif file by using a text editor. This is necessary to fully automate the installation of Windows 2000. For example:
Unattend.Txt

[UserData]
ProductID=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

UnattendMode=FullUnattended

this is a direct quote from the microsoft knowledge base under an advanced serch consisting of: windows 2000, unattended install, automate product ID key" = KB question number "Q250985"

good luck to ya, please let me know if you get it by email if you have the time, GOOD LUCK:

That was mostly good. The only part missing (even from Microsoft's information) was where and how to enter the UnattendMode key. But -- it works great now. Thanks so much!!!
