How to delete internet temporary files

By mariola ·
In IE5.5 I have checked box to delete file Temporary Internet Files when closing browser.
But as far as I can establish it does not really happen.
In above file I have a second file:ContentIE5 and 20 sub files named with a mixture of letters and numbers of no meaning.
The 20 sub files are emptied when closing browser.
The file ContentIE5 will show same content as the 20 sub files but under properties it will tell you that it contains 9,969 files and 20 files, size 41.5 MB and 71 MB used. These 9,969 files are not visible.
However using Vopt Millenium all files can be shown and I can establish that it?s old attachments to emails you deleted long ago as well as internet addresses you paid a visit to earlier.

Can I somehow delete these files and regain 41.5 MB or 71 MB?

You can delete the temporary internet files manually. Browse on My Computer to C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files. Open the folder and select all and delete all. That will clear out everything including cookies and all.

Assuming Win9x system, you can add this statement to your autoexec.bat:

deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1\content.ie5\*.*

That should clean out temporary Internet files at each reboot.

A manual way to clear these would be:
Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop, select Properties. Click the Delete Files button. In the window that brings up, check the box next to Delete all offline content, then click OK. This should also clear out Temporary Internet files.

Good luck

To Admin-Stuart
First suggestion works but not the manual way. It does not remove hidden files.
I found a programmes called Spider developed by Ward van Wanrooij www.fsm.nl/ward/
His programmes detects all hidden files and deletes them. Do you have any experience with the programme?
