How to determine minimum system requirem

By dannylittle ·
Is there a tool or utility that will help me determine the minimum hardware requirements for an application that I am developing? I have tested the application on a 450 Mhz Pentium III NT workstation with 384 MB of RAM. I would like to know the minimum system required to run the application.

I propose that you start by running task manager. Do a CTRL/ALT/DEL to get the NT security dialog box; select task manager. Alternatively, right click on the tray that contains the START icon.

In task manager, click on the performance tab. Thiswill show you an overall picture of current performance. You can extrapolate from there. T

You can then try runnin PerfMon. Go to Start/programs/administrative tools/performance monitor. This tool will allow you to see detailed info about I/O rates, disk bottlenecks, paging activity, etc.

Does you application do CAD, Virtual reality, sophisticated video or sound graphics, cryptology? These might benefit from specialized HW like graphics accelerators, or floating point accelerators, or special crypto devices, but
my proposed answer will assume you app does *not* need specialized HW. It will also assume that your app ran satisfacorily on the 450 Mhz PIII.

<<continuation of answer #1>>

Most large SW corporations use empirical evidence (i.e. trial & error) to answer that question. Of course, if your app is *strictly* compute intensive, or purely memory constrained, or only i/o intensive, then there is hope for pure extrapolation. But most apps involve an arbitrary mix of factors that make it *very* difficult to answer your question.

U can use Prformance Monitor to find
bottleneck in you system while application running.
Use Network Monitor fron SMS it is full
version of NM.

Unfortunately not and there is no straightforward way to get it!

The usual way is to try the application in different configurations. However, there are ways to estimate some values:
- The memory required by an application can be estimated usingNT's performance meter.
- If the application creates file or database records, the disk size requirements must consider this fact...

You can use Application performance manager if that does not work than you can start testing from the lowest computers gradually coming upwards till your software works
