How to enter in to S/W testing job.

By dadirekha ·

I am writing from Hyderabad. I would like to know how to start the career in Software Testing side. I have completed my Post Graduation Diploma in Information Technology and Management(PGDITM) from AIMA (All India Management Institution) New Delhi. Graduation level I have done Bachlor of Commerce. Now I am working in one of the BPO(Business Process Outsourcing) company since from 2 years. I started working in BPO since from my last semister and continueing it till date. However, I never applied for any other jobs from such a long time and now I have completed my Software Testing tools classes last month and planning to go for a Software side job. Following are the questions from my side:

1) Can I move to Software side in testing. Can i expect any career growth in that job. As I am currently working in BPO am I eligible for switching to S/W testing side.

2) If I am eligible how can I proceed in applying for the positions as all the companies are requesting for atleast 3 years experience. So am unable to understand how to start up.
3) I do have many friends who are suggesting me in preparing resumes but everyone are giving different suggestions and I have already edited my resume 20 times now totally in confusion state which one to be followed.
4) Also I am planning to do Live Project in Automated Testing tool as one of the institute is offering it. Is that helpful for me if I go for it.
5) Are there any companies who give oppertunities in doing project for them as a new tester. Or do they give any job oppertunities to new starters.

Please suggest me some ideas as I am really interested in going for S/W testing job. I hope you will give me possible suggestions in preparing my resume and applying for the job. I will be eagerly waiting for the positive response.

2 cents from mother sgt:
don't ask others what to do. ask yourself.
If you will find and do what you love, the money will follow. If you don't know what you love right now, you must keep asking yourself until one day you know.
1. yes. yes. You know what would be really fun? To find out all I could about how 'Software Testing' is being done by companies in my area. I could ask to meet a manager at a company that does software testing to interview for my article. I would wear my busiess clothes and write down everybody's name and treat everybody like the president of the company while I were there. especiially the receptionist, mail clerk and custodian.
Then I would want to show them my draft article draft, which presents their company in an excellent PR light, in person hopefully, and then the later, the finished product, over a thank you lunch. Then ask 'how can I learn even more now about 'software testing'" How can i 'start up'? 2. what companies request is almost never what they entirely need or will accept. The way to start up is to welcome rejection. 'Fail your way to success' 'If at first you don't succeed, try try again' 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained.'
3. I have several versions of my resume. more like flavors. you are the one standing behind the resume. let it reflect your best judgement not your 20 friends...I look it over and tailor it to each company and I save it by a new name that reflects the content.
4. yes. silly.
5. i don't know, but that is the right idea. be ready to propose a deal using you as a temporary side contractor, not an employee. money can be mentioned very very last if at all.
sounds like you need some practice. do lots of this stuff:
accepting phone calls turning you down and sincerely thanking them for it THEN asking if they know anybody else you could approach
Is that too much work?
Just do it.
You will be a success. And when your are are successful remember how hard it is for someone in your position.
