How to fastforward in .avi files?

By ngen255 ·
Hey, I've noticed that in some media files, you can't fastforward or skip to the part that you would like to. Most of the time it is .avi files, but sometimes it is .wmv or .asf files too...does anyone know of a fix to this?

This is due to the coding the creater made the file with. Only way to bypass this is to download the file and extract the media with a 3rd party software and strip it of it's initial properties.

you need to reencode the entire video, you can find some good tutorials on how to do this at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ in the convert section. Depending on your computer full length movies can take a couple of hours to finish. Probably not worth the effort tho.
