How to fnd content on TR ~ quick guide ~

By Jaqui ·
Since so many dimwits don't use the tags right the search feature that uses the tags is useless.

About the only truly effective means of finding content of interest is in finding members who participate in discussions on topics you are interested in, and add them to your contacts list.

lord knows doing a search for linux in the tags throws more results about windows problems than about linux, because of idiots not using tags appropriately. like, what does some problem with outlook have to do with linux? outlook is windows only people, as are 90% of the content tagged with linux.

very few with both windows and linux are ever going to be tagged right, since very few connections exist between the two operating systems.

I'm guilty

It's just too much work to add tags!
Ha! What an excuse!

it's adding tags that aren't accurate that really screws the search up.

there are many people [ mostly from Inda it seems ] who post and click every tag option available.
effectively spamming the search function.

Well, just for you

I'll remember, next time, to attract as much attention as possible with my next discussion/question.

Then I can be reported as spam.

Not disagreeing with you completely, but

"...doing a search for linux in the tags throws more results about windows problems ... what does some problem with outlook have to do with linux?"

Nothing, but try telling that to those Penguinistas who insist on replying with, "You wouldn't have those problems if you used Linux instead!" THAT'S why a search for Linux winds up with so many Windows hits.

it's the tags that are used not post content.

but yeah, when it's not tagged with Linux, I don't bother posting anything if I don't have a valid answer, most of the time.
I do poke the MS focus in the blogs a bit.

Maybe the Search function will get an overhaul

I know the next revision was previewed in L'ville last month, but so far no loose lips have let any details leak. Jason must have sworn them to secrecy.

What I wish they'd change about tags

by Tink! In reply to How to fnd content on TR ...

is when you start a discussion based on a blog, article or gallery - (all of which already have tags assigned) you have to enter tags AGAIN. I wish they'd just carry over the tags that went with the original piece!
