How to handle a stressed out employees

by scarecrow71 . Updated 22 years ago

I am an IT manager with a fairly small team. We keep things fairly relaxed, the first thing most of us do in the morning is check through our personal email, but when a job needs doing we get on with it.

The problem is that one of the team gets very stressed and frustrated when things don’t work first time. He has a very negative attitude and starts stomping round the office complaining that the day will be downhill from here on.

When this happens, I give him assistance to get over the problem and try to appease him by showing him that it was no big problem in the first place. I am generally able to calm him down and he’s back to his ‘cheerful’ self before long. Unfortunatly, by this time he has disrupted everyone else. He is alreadyattracting less than complimentary nicknames.

Am I doing the right thing by helping him with his problems, or should I let him work them out for himself?

How do I turn round his attitude and get him to think positively not negatively?

Do you have any tips for handling this type of employee?
