How to move a web site from...

By Theoden ·
I have inherited a web site on a legacy NT 4 server that does not have the FrontPage server extensions installed. I want to move this site to another server that does have the extensions. I can't access the current location via FrontPage because of the errors. What is the best way to move the site and retain as much of the linkage/bells-whistles/permissions of the site as possible??

Depends on what version of IIS is on each server.
Once that information is known, a plan for migration can be advised.

Thanks for the information. You can get a migration tool for migrating IIS4 to IIS5 here:

http://www.iisfaq.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2511

A nice little techchat at MS on migrations:

And some good commentary on gotchas on this site:

And this is a utility that I have known to be used in the past by a bunch of webheads (pet name for web server engineers) to migrate those servers) with some good advice too:

"BFilmFan", IIS 4 is installed on the NT 4 server. IIS 5 is on the destination server.
