How to prevent NT reboot when display re

Our NT sp6 os and HP71 monitor (Matrox MGA-G200 chip) are supposed to allow dynamic display changes in screen resolution without insisting on a reboot. Some do, and some don’t. The Matrox drivers are 4.77. I have spent a lot of time searching for the fix. I desperately hope some out there knows the fix. Thanks.
