If you want a fresh start (and I would with this situation, just to make sure everything is right) here you go;

1. Backup anything you want to keep.
2. Using a 98 boot disk, run fdisk (start the computer without CDROM) and delete ALL partitions.
3. Create a new partition, sized as you wish (for 2000 I generally use 5Gb).
4. Set the partition as active with fdisk.
5. Format the partition.
6. Insert your Windows CD. (If installation doesn't automatically start...)
7. Restart the system with the CDROM support, pay attention to the drive letter given to the CD drive (generally E or F:\).
8. At the command prompt type: X:\I386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons (where X is the letter given to your CDROM drive)
9. Continue with setup as usual.The /cmdcons switch loads the recovery console (a powerful tool for repairing dammaged windows installations). If you do not want the recovery console, simply omit the /cmdcons switch. If you need clarification, feel free to email me.

Good luck!Joe

You are obviously re-installing because of a problem. Answer 2 is only necessary if your cd drive is not bootable. If it is bootable (check your bios settings, and set it to boot from CD first), then put in your win2k CD and the install will start after you press a key when asked to do so. Follow the prompts as if you are installing win2k fresh (ie, press "enter" to install windows at the dialog), follow the prompts until it asks you to choose a drive to install do. First, delete the partition,then press "enter" to install to that drive and perform a format (either FAT32 or NTFS, your choice) and then continue the rest of the install. Make sure you back up all your data.
