How to retrieve data from HDD password protection using external USB

By cindy_koay ·
I had set the HDD password in CMOS/BIOS on my Toshiba laptop. My concern is, if one day my laptop crash, can I retrieve my data from HDD using external USB connection?

If the information on your laptop is important to you, then I would suggest regularly backing up your files in case your laptop crashes.

Hope you can remember them

many posts from people using this software and failing to gain access to there HDD at a later stage.

Your Toshiba Warranty from what I can gather at a quick glance excludes retrieving the said passwords, but they do not indicate on their website if they are unable to reset or disable the password for the HDD.

I don't know why you feel the need to use this facility, a strong password will prevent most people from accessing your data, what is it on your computer that will compromise you. Perhaps data encrytion may be a better option?

I think the software protection for HDD is a non proprietary Toshiba product. It is not possible to retrieve your data by using most conventional means.
