How to save Live Update Norton Antivirus

I am using norton antivirus 2003 on my pc. I use auto live update option to download latest virus definition. My question is how can we save virus definitions for future usage in case of reinstalation of windows and norton antivirus again. In that case i have to update virus definitions which could take a lot of time. Also tell me where these files are install automatically.
