How to Securely Transfer User Data When Refreshing PCs?

    Locked

    by elizabethturnerwrites ·

When replacing or refreshing company PCs, how do you ensure user data and settings are securely transferred, especially when using OneDrive? How do you handle concerns about missing desktop layouts, document shortcuts, browser favorites, and cached passwords? Additionally, how might setting up a well-organized workspace contribute to a smoother transition and alleviate user concerns?

      Three answers.
      1. OneDrive contents is in the cloud, no need to transfer it.
      2. When the time has come to replace or refresh all company PC’s, it’s too late to set up a well-organised workspace first.
      3. A lot of things are stored on the companies servers.

Have a look what happens if you login to an existing company PC you never used before (preferably one that was just reimaged). What do you miss on the desktop, in the shortcuts, in the favorites and in the passwords? Once you know that, find a way to handle what’s missing and instruct your employees what to do on their old PC/laptop and on their new one.

We moved our policy to OMIT USER DATA. If you put your data or files on the PC and not in the company servers and apps then they are not migrated or saved. This resulted in huge cost savings and helped us avoid big storage upgrades to the company servers.

        1. Back up data ;use a secure backup method such as an encrypted external drive or cloud storage , to protect user data.

        2. use migration tool ; utilize built in migration tools like window easily transfer or the user state migration tools to transfer data and setting.
