how to set up a home network

By rma1thunder ·
Hello Engineers, I say engineers because normal people without knowledge of computers are flat out ignorant.I need help though. I have 3pc's. 2 normal pc's and a laptop. They are all sharing the same internet access. I have internet access with direct tv adsl. I have lynk sys adsl router and a hub with all pcs connected. From the router i have a cable going to a port in the hub and it works. Could someone tell me how to create a peer to peer network where i can have a share drive and also sharethe same printer. 2 computers have windowx xp professional and the other xp home.

home network

Pick the PC on which you want to share the drive and printer. You can access microsoft's help and search for "file and printer sharing" and you should be able to configure it from the information there (there may also be a wizard you can use, but Ihave not tried it).

In essence you will need to add the microsoft client to each PC (you may already have this since your PC's are networked) in Network Neighborhood properties, then add file and print sharing service to the "server" PC. Then select the files, folders, and printers to be shared and designate them as shared. Finally, add them to the other two PC's (you should be able to browse to them in the network neighborhood).

Good luck
