how to setup a network with 2 comp using linux?

i am using pclinux os and sled 10.1 .they are both connected to a hub to the internet.what is the simplyest and easest way for a novice?

Set up static IPs and SMB

10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2, netmask 255.255.255.0 on both (yes, I can hear the gurus howling, but it will work just fine) and refer to them by IP address. Set up SMB on both, and they can MOUNT each other's drives by IP address. Use the same userid/password on both machines to make it easy on yourself.
