How to unload a device driver

By rui.humberto ·
I'm getting some problems when trying to remove several device drivers that i don't need anymore, because when i try to do so in device manager i receive a message stating that i "cannot remove it because it may be necessary for starting up the system". I believe that this occurs because the devices are loaded at startup. How can i prevent them to be loaded so i can later unnistall them?

First, is the hardware that these drivers are for still part of your system?

If this is hardware you have removed from your system, did you open up device manager and remove the device before you physically removed the hardware?

Please list the devices and why you believe you don't need the drivers anymore. Many devices need to be removed from Windows in a specific manner. So, there is not a generic answer to your question.
