I have a quick question for the resident HP guru, it there is one…
I have an HP dv5215US that is just over a year old (imagine that, just out of warranty). Early last week, I was using it on an automation install; everything was running great. A day or so later, I fired it up in the afternoon to work on a few things.
When I pushed the power button, I immediately noticed a problem: the LED in the power button didn’t come on, and the backlight in the screen didn’t flicker. The CPU fan spooled up and spun down, and that was it. No BIOS screen, nothing. Weird thing is, it stays powered on, but no buttons function (WiFi, Vol, QuickPlay, etc.); they are all lit up, but none of them do anything.
I have removed, reseated, and swapped HD, DVD, WiFi card, RAM, battery, and power supply. I have pulled the machine apart, and reseated processor. I have also fed monitor out to a separate screen to verify video out – nothing…
The one thing that I do notice is the HD light and DVD light both blink almost simultaneously. They blink twice-pause-blink twice-pause. HD is now in an external case, and all data is fine.
While I can handle pretty much all SW and HW issues, this one has me kinda stumped. I’m almost positive that the mobo took a crap, but would like a couple opinions to back up my thought, or point me in a new direction.
A lengthy call to HP Tech, speaking with somebody named Rahamosjdfbioawbwadfono, led to the statement that “I should sending it in to HP, so that they can inspects it for $285 monies…” No thanks…
