HP Motherboard Help

Hey All,
I just got a HP Motherboard from a friend so that i could build my brother a computer. The prolem is when i go to install Win 98 2nd edition or any other OS for That matter it wont let me install it just freezes and i have to reboot. Does any one know how to get it to work (Iknow it works because my friends Brother had it in his computer and he didnt have the HP sotware or anything)?
Please Help!

Make a clean start

First check your bios. It might be good idea to reset it to default (factory) values. Is it an empty harddisk ? Fdisk and format c: are allways good friends (if it is really empty). It could also be a hardware problem or faulty harddisk (bad sectors). So check the disk with scandisk. You could also remove some cards like network interface card, modem, sound card and try again. Keep it simple at first.

Hi Brad,
My friend has just picked up a HP Vectra, I fdisk,formated & loaded 98, after 98 finished configuring, the system rebooted & then hung!.
I then removed the ROM, & windows loaded/.HP seems to set all thier drives to 'cable select'. Have you tried this??
