HP Recovery cd's seem to take FOREVER

By jfrendle ·
I have been trying to reinstall XP MCE using HP's recovery disk and it gets to disk 3 and just runs the some files from I386 and PRELOAD? when I reboot the pc it goes to another screen and has some process logger and another program running, but never does complete. Been trying for over 2 days with no luck?

You need a disk wiper...

To completely wipe the drive, then re-install the software in question, this will make it run more smoothly.

Besides wiping the HDD you need to look for

by OH Smeg In reply to HP Recovery cd's seem to ...

Hardware problems depending on why this is being reloaded. If there was a problem of not booting it could be that something has failed or otherwise gone bad and needs replacing for the unit to work correctly.

But having said that Media Center comes on 1 CD and if that is installing the problem could very well be with HP's recovery set causing something nasty to happen. If you can get into the OS then the Hardware is OK and the Recovery Set has a Problem. If you can not open Media Center you need to check the hardware with something like the Ultimate Boot CD available from here
