HP Surestore CD Writer Plus 7200i

I have the above rewiter installed on my system running windows 2000 (SR1). It worked fine under Win 98 and 98SE and Win Me. Since installing Win2K I’ve had numerous problems with quite a lot of hardware all of which I’ve been able to solve, except this one.
HP’s site is no help at all. Various forums have given me clues but none have worked.
The CD Rom works Ok but when I try to load the sofware for the Write / Rewrite it comes up with the error message that the IDE driver is not connected and suggests that I take it back and change it for an external model. As I’ve had it for several years, this is out of the question.
One piece of advice I get is to turn off the DMA. This is fine in older versions of Windows but how do I do it in Win 2000?
Your help would be appreciated.
And if you could keep it simple I’d be even more greatful!
