HP Tape Backup and Windows 2000

By trokep ·
I have upgraded to Windows 2000 and find that my HP Colorado T3000 does not appear to be supported. Am I correct in reasoning after searching HP, Drivers.com and DriverGuide.com that the T3000 is not supported and that I should invest in new hardware? If so, what would you recommend?

HP Tape Backup and Windows 2000

The basic quesion is "Is the tape drive working?" If so, wait for the updated drivers. If it is not and you need the tapebackup NOW, a hardware upgrade is a necessity.

Go to microsoft's supported hardware list for 2000 and look through the supported tape backups and choose one from there. As you are familiar with the Colorado, this may be your first choice.

Paul.

i'm too lazy to look up to see how old the t3000 is, but i assume that you know. if it is significantly older than win2k pro, then it will not have win2k drivers and must be discarded/sold/given away. older tape drives that don't show up on win2k are usually so old that they will not get drivers.
as for what to buy, get anything that's new and get the biggest and best you can afford. just make sure it's compatible with win2k and has a win2k-compatible backup utility, of course.
personally,i use a seagate stt-8000n scsi tape backup, but i have to use win2k's backup program because the stt-8000n does not come with win2k-compatible backup utility software.
hope this helps.
