Upon hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie went straight to her grandparent’s house to visit her 95-year-old grandmother and comfort her.

When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, “He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning.”

Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that 2 people nearly 100 years old having sex would surely be asking for trouble.

“Oh no, my dear,” replied granny.

“Many years ago, realizing our advanced age,
we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring.

It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong.”

She paused to wipe away a tear, and continued, “He’d still be alive if the ice cream truck hadn’t come along.”

A koala is sitting up a gum tree smoking a joint when a little lizard walks past and looks up and says: “Hey Koala! What are you doing?”

The koala says: “Smoking a joint, come up and have some.”

So the little lizard climbs up and sits next to the koala and they have a few joints. After a while the little lizard says his mouth is ‘dry’ and is going to get a drink from the river. But the little lizard is so stoned that he leans too far over and falls into the river.

A crocodile sees this and swims over to the little lizard and helps him to the side, then asks the little lizard: “What’s the matter with you?” The little lizard explains to the crocodile that he was sitting smoking a joint with the koala in the tree, got too stoned and then fell into the river while taking a drink.

The crocodile says he has to check this out and walks into the rain forest, finds the tree where the koala is sitting finishing a joint, and he looks up and says “Hey you!”

So the koala looks down at him and says … “Faaaaarrrrking hell dude ……. how much water did you drink?!!”

Grandma and Grandpa were watching a healing service on the television. The evangelist called to all who wanted to be healed to go to their television set, place one hand on the TV and the other hand on the body part where they wanted to be healed.

Grandma got up and slowly hobbled to the television set, placed her right hand on the set and her left hand on her arthritic shoulder that was causing her to have great pain.

Then Grandpa got up, went to the TV, placed his right hand on the set and his left hand on his crotch.

Grandma scowled at him and said, “I guess you just don’t get it. The purpose of doing this is to heal the sick, not raise the dead!”

A woman goes to her boyfriend’s parents’ house for Christmas dinner.

This is to be her first time meeting the family and she is very
nervous.

They all sit down and begin eating a fine meal.

The woman is beginning to feel a little discomfort, thanks to her
nervousness and the broccoli casserole. The gas pains are almost making
her eyes water. Left with no other choice, she decides to relieve
herself a bit and lets out a dainty fart.

It wasn’t loud, but everyone at the table heard the poof.

Before she even had a chance to be embarrassed, her boyfriend’s father
looked over at the dog that had been snoozing under the woman’s chair,
and said in a rather stern voice, “Skippy!”.

The woman thought, “This is great!” and a big smile came across her
face.

A couple of minutes later, she was beginning to feel the pain again.

This time, she didn’t even hesitate. She let a much louder and longer
rrrrrip.

The father again looked at the dog and yelled, “Dammit Skippy!”

Once again the woman smiled and thought “Yes!” A few minutes later the
woman had to let another rip. This time she didn’t even think about it.
She let a fart rip that rivaled a train whistle blowing.

Once again, the father looked at the dog with disgust and yelled,
“Dammit Skippy, get away from her, before she shits on you!”

IF I DIDN’T HAVE PETS…

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn’t sound like the kennels.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree — dog bones, stuffed animals, nor would I have to answer to people why I wrap them.

I would not be on a first-name basis with three veterinarians.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L-, F-R-I-S-B-E-E, G-O or W-A-L-K.

I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog ties them down too much.

I’d look forward to spring and the melting of snow instead of dreading mud season.

I would not have to answer the question:: “Why do you have dogs/animals?” from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get.

How empty my life would be.

Every single thing he was saying made good sense, it just wasn’t clear to “normal” people. I mentioned that to my partner after we left and he just said, “I know what you mean”.

Also, this was under what at the time TR was calling “Too hot for TR”. They would make sure that, my divorce discussion, and other non-tech threads would not show in the “hot discussion” lists, even if they were being posted to on a 10 to 1 ratio.

I think there started to be TOO many non-tech discussions for them to keep up with, so they gave up on that.

The third largest discussion was something about GWB, but I don’t remember exactly what that one was about because there have been so many I can’t keep them straight. They are all the same anyways. 😀

As I understand it, they will get everything synched up soon.

I attempted a six mile walk this morning and only got half-way before I decided I couldn’t make it so I came back.

It wasn’t too bad. That apple juice mix JamesRL hooked us up with is da bomb!

There was new stuff to see going the way I did today. The birds seemed to be entertained. They line up on the wires and laugh when I go by.

One house has a big-a** dog on a chain in the front yard. He was going nuts barking until I talked to him and told him to go find his ball. When I passed him again on the way home he just barked at me a couple of times with his tail wagging hard. I think he wanted to play ball or he was trying to lure me into the yard as a mid-morning snack.
Interesting stuff huh?

Anyway, I made it. It would have to be a cold day in Hell before a girl tells me she walked 6 miles and I’m not going to go the distance. Right now the official poolwater temp in Hell is 86 so it’s not cold. I’m going to go check it out soon, hopefully before I get pummeled or have someone pull my hair. :0

I’m proud of you NeverBusted!!! Six miles is a GOOD walk. I’m glad to see you made it. But I knew you could.

Frankly, on a cold day in Hell, I only do 6 miles on an indoor track, also known as the Mall. If I walk the edges, the circumfrence of the Mall is 1/2 mile. 12 trips around = 6 miles. You don’t get bonus points if you body check the Seniors. 🙁

I’ll get you yet. Next year you can come and walk the 3 Day with us!

In reply to WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!! :)

it gets too cold, icy and snowy. Maybe one of the local colleges will let me in, or the YMCA.

As far as the 3-day? Mebbe. If my wife had more vacation time left, unspoken for, we’d probably hit the Mall of America over there and cheer you on too. We talked about it, but not this year. Seems we already have a Vegas trip in the works along with my daughter and son-in-law. I’m sure they were going to tell me about it sometime before the trip date. They usually do.
————
I used to run 6 miles 3X a week, 30 years ago. We had annual physical certifications for a one mile run. Very few people just tried to make the passing time, most of us went flat out. My best time was 5:45 seconds. I ran that time my first year and tried harder than a mofo to beat that the next year and still got 5:45. That really ticked me off for awhile too. Especially since everytime I run that hard two of my old broken-up toes re-break themselves from slamming into the track.

I’m going to stick with six miles for awhile. I feel pretty good about it. I have a tendency to overdo things and now that I’m older, (not old), I try not to break/hurt things cuz it takes too long to heal. Seems like things should heal faster after all that practice but it’s not how it works.

Go to your local drug store or Wal-Mart

In reply to I’m not sure what I’m going to do when

And get Tiger Balm. Little bitty jar. You want the red Tiger Balm, not the white. The red is stronger.

This stuff is magic on sore muscles. It is VERY strong so do not, under any circumstances, get it anywhere near your face. Wash your hands carefully after applying.

The aging thing truly bites. After all the training and conditioning I have been doing, I still start walk days with a couple ibuprophen. A six mile is okay without it but a ten isn’t. You’re right, it takes FOREVER to get right again after an injury.

Plans for next year. I don’t even know what the dates are for the 2007 walk. They won’t announce until November. And we NEVER know the route until we are walking it. They will publish cheering sections about two weeks in advance and the Walker Stalkers can generally find us.

Before you ask- a Walker Stalker is someone who follows/finds the route and sets up cheering stations of their own- generally they bring water, super soakers, popsicles, confetti, balloons, and generally hang out, cheer walkers on, and then go to a point on the route ahead of us and do it again. My partner is a Walker Stalker- BIG ice chest, tacky Hawaiian shirt.

I think you and your wife would make GREAT Walker Stalkers. I’ll let you know as soon as my 2007 website is up- Next year I hope to be better about updating it.

18/15… My POOR feet!

by tig2 ·

In reply to I’m not sure what I’m going to do when

Saturday we made it through the 18 with no casualties. One of my teammates got to experience that combination of vasculitis and heat rash that I get. Poor thing had no clue how to stop the burn. Partner had an icy cold wet towel that he uses to cool down and we wrapped her legs with it. Another teammate had hydorcortisone cream. Between the two we got her to the point that she could drive home. Good thing- she was the driver for a carpool.

I probably spent 20 minutes in the shower just cooling down. The trail was really crowded so it was hard to set a pace and manage to it. We ran into a bunch of other 3 Day walkers though and spent some time cheering each other on. That was fun!

Took a picture of the rash on my legs for you. If you see anything like it, just cool the area and apply hydrocortisone 1% cream- it will go away pretty quick. Will send under seperate cover.

We found some beautiful rib eye steaks that the partner grilled rare. My criteria was a gentle “moo”. That and a martini and I was out for the night.

Today we were up at five to walk the Dam. Ended up in a pretty hilly area that about took me out. Pretty painful and not an experience that I care to repeat any time soon. Partner and another (survivor) teammate stayed with me until I could move again. Another teammate poured ice water over my head. This was good.

I don’t think I appreciated until today just how difficult what I am doing is. And all we did was 18/15. I found out how much it helps to be cheered on and know how much I will appreciate the people who come to cheer us on. I thought I knew what I was doing. I was WRONG!

We are less than a month away from the event. In a sudden change of plans, we will “camp” at the Hilton. Other than that, I am as ready as I can be- still trying to help teammates with fundraising, do some last minute fundraising myself, starting to make lists of the things we will need to have and pack.

At the end of the day, I made it. My feet are sore- of course. I think that buying stock in ibuprophen might be a good idea- I sure take a lot of the stuff. I’m on a great team with some really good people. My partner is wonderful- he walked as many miles as I did… and is cooking supper.

I have the best support I could ever want. the next milestone is 20 miles/10 miles weekend after next. I’ll be just fine too.

TT you know you are an inspiration to a lot of people. I can’t believe how much you are accomplishing in your training. I have heard that sometimes it helps to focus on something in front of you until you reach it and then pick the next item in front of you. Before you know it, you have reached your final target.

I am in the crowd cheering you on. Go TT

I am so impressed with how well you are doing. I used to run and I know that you get in a “zone” that makes the time pass quickly…but I hear, although I have no experience with terrain, but I hear that hilly terrain beats the zone all to heck. I’ve been told that when you cover terrain that is hilly or steep, it throws your body off it normal routine. So you must have just done really, really good. And I am so pleased to hear that you have a good team with you that cares about each other and help each other out. Doesn’t that make all the difference in the world? (and it just goes to show that cold showers are good for lots of things :\ )

You have my best wishes for the next one (tha tis the next walk, not shower).

Keep up the good work, Tig!!!

In reply to I’m not sure what I’m going to do when

You don’t know the half of it- I HATE HILLS! I have no idea what the grade was but on the paved trail it was like climbing 50 fights of stairs. Normally I stay off trail like that- won’t encounter it on the event so I don’t train it. The gravel was the WORST- just as steep as the paved trail with half the footing. And believe me- the humidity didn’t help either!

I do have a great team- there is a bunch of us that walk together every week so we’re pretty close. We have gotten to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and are prepared to deal wtih them.

Only one more long weekend coming before the event. The event will go well- training is gonna kill me!

The two little dog alarms I’ve got here are totally different with strangers. My Yorkie would help burglars carry stuff out if they’d play ball with him.

My 15# Shi Tzu bays like a hound and will almost nip at strangers calves if they turn their back. He thinks he’s as big as a Rottweiler. We have to keep an eye on him because if it’s in the yard and it’s not supposed to be here he will chase it out and keep going until he loses track of it.

Rabbits, birds, chipmunks, butterflys, cats, mice toads and frogs beware.

My little puglets are so funny that way. Shayna would just lay there watching them come and go with big soulful (sp?) eyes. Bane would be barking at them and running in circles tripping them up. It’s that “look I am adorable, play with me, pet me” that he feels necessary to teach everyone. 🙂
