I am unable to download files

By owlnut ·
I have been unable to download any files or programs. I start the download (I have a DSL line) and the file(s) appear to be downloading. When the file(s) is ready to install, I get an error message saying "Unable to launch application. The application was not found."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't give many specifics, but I'll assume IE here. Try going to cnet or something and find a link to a download (something other than the one you are currently trying). Right-click and choose Save and pick a spot. Do not auto-launch! When the file is done, look in the folder you told it to save to. Is there a file there? If so, double-click on it to install it. Does it install? If so, the problem may be the file you are trying to download doesn't have all the parts it needs or your auto-launch is broken.

Need more help, give us more specifics, i.e. what browser, what OS, what program to download, etc...

I am using Netscape v. 4.7. I received a reply from Real.com tech support which suggested that I try downloading using a different browser. I did (I.E.) and I had no trouble downloading. I've since upgraded my browser to Netscape v. 6.2, and havehad no trouble downloading.
