Stop using this HDD immediately

The more that you use it the more that your Data will get Overwritten and be harder to cheaply recover.

Now depending on what you used here to do the repair you may have made your life harder than you realize. If it was a System Makers Recovery Disc or a Recovery Partition on the HDD these do not do a Repair Install they do a New Install and return the computer to As New condition from a Software Load Point of View.

You need to remove the HDD fit it to another computer as a Slave and run a Data Recovery program to attempt to recover your Data. The only software that i have personally used to do this is from On Track which worked very well but it's certainly not the cheapest option out there.

If this Data is Important you should send the HDD to a Specialist Data Recovery Firm and pay them to recover the Data. However if it would just be Nice to recover the Data you can try one of the many Data Recovery Applications available, here is a short list of the better known ones though there are many others you can try if you like. Just remember the more you do now unsuccessfully the more you will pay a Profession to recovery your Data and the less likely they will be to recover it all.

While the last 2 are from the same company they are very different products. Win Hex should only be considered foe use by someone who knows Hex Inside Out while Davory is a great cheap General Purpose Application.

Personally I prefer the On Track Option but it's anything but cheap. However because I use this type of software a lot it's paid for itself many times over by now, for a cheaper option Spin Rite from Gibson Research or Stella have both very good reputations by other TR members.

This one has also been recommended by some people here on TR but I have no personal experience with it or how well it may or may not work
