    IBM Thinkpad 390E-2626 DOU CDRom bomb

    Our department has 10 of these models and one by one the CDRom is acting flaky. Sometimes they will only play Audio CDs. Other times everything works and other times it does not work at all. I have done extentive searches on IBM’s support site and do not find any listed problems. This is an internal swapable drive. I have also replaced the CDRom (which is piggybacked with the floppy connected together by a brackett). After the new CDRom was installed the problem is still the same… HELP.. if anyone else has had this issue and found a cure I would certainly appreciate it. These laptops are still in good enough condition to use for our field staff and do not want to replace them at this time.
