Can you bootup as normal?

If the function has been removed then you can not do it. If it can boot up then you can do a restore as normal. If not do a restore from "safe mode". Hold down the "F8" key when booting up, a window will come up (white text on a black background) at the top will be "safe mode" click on this and follow the on board instructions, when in goto: start > programs > accessories > system tools > restore. Follow the on screen instructions.
After all is done the computer will boot up as normal and if you need to delete some programs then get a hdd wiper there are lots on the internet for you to choose from.
Hope this helps you.

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.

The only possible way to recover the Factory Installed Recovery Function is to wipe the HDD and reload it the same way as IBM did when they sold the computer.

That is to create a FAT 32 Partition and copy the Recovery Data to that Partition and then install the OS to the remainder of the HDD.

Before you do

anything else check this. Creating a Recovery Repair diskette just in case it has been damaged.

Start your computer and operating system.
Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to display the directory structure of your hard drive.
Open the C:\IBMTOOLS folder.
Double-click RRDISK.BAT and follow the instructions on the screen.
Using the Recovery Repair diskette

Shut down the operating system and turn off the computer.
Insert the Recovery Repair diskette into diskette drive A.
Turn on the computer and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: If the repair operation finishes without error, the F11 prompt will appear the next time you restart your computer.
If an error message appears during the repair operation and the repair operation cannot be completed, you might have a problem with the Product Recovery program or the partition that contains the Product Recovery program. Use a Product Recovery CD to run the Product Recovery program. If a Product Recovery CD was not provided with your computer, contact the Support Center to order a Product Recovery CD for your computer.
