post in the Q&A section and I am sure someeone there will have an answer for you ASAP.

You might want to include trivial information like what version of OS you are running and such.

I belive you changed the default path of the programs and the shortcuts no longer point to the desired executables.

Try Technical Q&A forum.

This is a tech. problem, in search of a solution.

It properly belongs in "Technical Q&A," not in "Discussions." Please re-post there.

Not only will you be more likely to attract the attention of those seeking to provide answers, but you will also make it easier for those seeking discussions to find such.

Thank you.

It has happened to me!

by marc In reply to ICONS changed to .lnk fil ...

The exact same problem has just happened to me today! I cannot believe that there is nobody out there who knows how to fix this problem. I have been on three different technical support websites all day, and no technician can give me (or all of us with this problem) a solution. I know it's a registry fix that's needed, but you can't run any .exe's. I can't even right click on a reg file to merge it into the registry. What the heck is this thing that's causing this problem? Please, does someone have the answer?

you can

run regedit itself?
if so, I'll see if I can track down a set of reg keys for exe and lnk and make available, as regedit itself will import the keys.

If REGEDIT won't work...

Stick your XP disc in and boot to CD rom...

Let setup do it's business.

When it asks if you want to install, press enter as if you were going to start a new install.

Then windows will find your existing install, from there select R to repair, and windows will look like its installing, leave it 10 or so minutes, so it can do it's stuff.

Eventually it will reboot your machine back into Windows, from there check all your shortcuts and that *SHOULD* have fixed it.
