ICS XP HOME AND DSL

By jsoto ·
I HAVE TWO COMPUTERS I NEED TO CONNECT, I AM USING A CROSSOVER CABLE. BOTH COMPUTERS HAVE XP HOME EDITION; COMPUTER1 HAS TWO NICS ONE FOR THE DSL AND ONE FOR THE NETWORK TO BE CONNECTED TO COMPUTER2.; COMPUTER2 IS A LAPTOP. FOR SOME REASON I AM HAVING A HARD TIME CONNECTING THEM, THEY DON'T "SEE" EACH OTHER. WORKGROUP IS THE SAME, THE IP ADDRESSES ARE IN THE SAME RANGE AND MASKS ARE THE SAME. HELP

ICS XP HOME AND DSL

If you are just trying to get internet access on the laptop, and not trying to share files then you can download AnalogX Proxy - it's free and very effective with a small footprint on your system. Download it here @ http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm
Install it on the XP machine and follow the readme.txt instructions to config the laptop.

If you are trying to share files, and trying to get internet access I would use the "Setup Home Network" wizard which will createa diskette that will automatically configure your laptop. It uses APIPA / DHCP to do it's work. On the WinXP (home edition) system open your network connections and at the top of the "task pane" on the left you'll see the link to start the wizard.
