IE 6 can't connect to https://

By dlwicks ·
I have been able to connect to whatever site I've attempted since I have had this Dell running XP Pro using IE as my browser. Last week I tried to connect to my bank account. I get to the "Home Page". when I try to log on to MY ACCOUNT I get "Page can not be displayed". I have set all 'Internet options' to default. I've tried a number of secure sites. Any https://www.anysite.com address returns the "Page can not be displayed" error page.

Any ideas thoughts similar trouble or creative BS would be appreciated.

Check the security options of IE under tools|internet options|advanced

and make sure box for
SSL 2.0
SSL 3.0

are checked.

Another option, are you using a proxy?
If so, could be your proxy doesnt speak SSL.

Hi,
Theres a known bug in IE6 with SSL. It's covered in the technet article at

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b325662

(remove any spaces from that URL)
Basically you need to apply the latest IE6 service pack.

The service pack starts the installation but it stops with a message that it can not get to the internet site that contains the 12 meg main Download. (I think it is at a secure site).
Thank you other thoughts?
