IE 6 in XP Pro ruined my system! HELP!

By Michelinda ·
No new software, no new hardware. System has had no changes in over a week and had no problems. I have had XP for months now and never had Internet Explorer not work. AMD 1.7 with 384 (?) meg of RAM and 30 gig harddrive.

I can go into Internet Explorer (hereafter IE)and cruise the internet all I want to, as long as I don't touch the keyboard (mouse click only. The minute I so much as touch "www" in the address line (or any form or blank on a web page), it hangs, closes down and offers to send an error report to Microsoft (they have dozens to them by now - for awhile it was the only way to get to them). Needless to say, that makes it impossible to even EXPLORE My Computer, since it used IE (I can click and navigate, but never use the keyboard). I can sign in on AOL and cruise all I want, but it ISN'T my internet navigator of choice. I even tried Microsoft and UNINSTALLED IE, rebooted and reinstalled. No help. I am looking at a new hard drive and new setup, but that is ALOT ofwork. I have seen a few questions that others have had problems, but not any fixed. HELP...HELP....HELP....

If you prefer to use IE 6,then try running the Repair install from the Add/Remove Programs
Highlight IE and when popup window appears you have the option to restore to previous version or repairing IE,choose the option you prefer

The other option would be to consider uninstalling IE,by downloading and using a utility called IE Radicator

Have you considered uninstalling AOL, reinstall IE, install windows updates (if any are available) and see if the issue still occurs.
