IE 7

By Snuffy09 ·
I am having a problem launching IE7

When i double click the icon to run it nothing happens. When i went to control panel to check Internet options, it is not listed as a choice. I uninstalled/reinstalled IE as a windows component, still nothing.

what should i do next to get IE runnning again?

Firefox is working great, it is my browser of choice, but my wife tends to like IE more for banking/bills and is a lil more plugin friendly (i have script blocker & ad blocker running) for what she does.

Thanks!

You could try...

to uninstall IE7 from the Add/Remove Programs utility. This will downgrade it back to IE6 (the version built into the Windows OS). See if you can launch IE6. Then try upgrading back to IE7.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried other user accounts?

by Darryl~ Moderator In reply to IE 7

Have you logged under another account to see if it works?

That way you can determine if it's IE or if it's the settings on the user account. It could save you some time doing installs & uninstalls.

thanks for both of your tips but it still doesnt work.

When i double click the IE6 icon it creates a shortcut now. Very strange

It is the only app that behaves this way.

Start IE in non-addin mode....

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to thanks, but no go

Try starting IE without add-ins. The shortcut to start it this way is in the Start menu, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.

If it starts this way, you know for sure that one of the add-ins is preventing it from starting it normally. So, turn them all off by going into IE's Tools/Options/Programs/Manage Addons, reboot, then try turning them on one at a time and testing IE to see if it will start. Once you discover which one is preventing IE from starting, you can uninstall it.
