Are you running a firewall? If you are you may need to determine if the port you need is open. The provider of your anti-virus should have a document related to running their program behind a firewall.

well if you gots a ping you gots a link.

So, you've got 100 pcs on a network. What type of network? domain? AD? are you using a proxy server for internet access?

Your problem could be linked to a security policy which restricts internet access. could be your IE isn't setup to work with the proxy server if your using one. Could be your default gateway IP address is wrong, could be a lot of things.

need some more info

It is a window nt4.0 network and the pc has been working for years before 2 days ago. I rechecked everything and is able to ping to the servere includung getway. it looks like internet explorer issue but so i repaired the ie 5.5 because of connectivity i could not upgrade it to ie six. Is there anyway i can install ie with it asking me connection to internet?

You can download the internet explorer admin kit which allows you to grab all the IE install files you need to a PC and use that as the update point. This then can become the install server for all your network and saves all machines updating from the web.

Hi

Have you checked your TCP/IP settings? Make sure your computer's IP address is correct, that the list of DNS servers starts with your domain controller, and that the second DNS server points to your internet Gateway (assuming that is that you only have one DC), and that the Gateway entry is also correct.

Good luck
