IE on XP wont download

I recently upgraded to XP and now my DL’s hang approx. 50% thru.Also my son is extremely upset that IE wont run any games from other websites i.e.(Nick, Cartoon Net.)It appears shockwave will run and then we get the error report, all MSN updates areinstalled after many times trying to complete the DL.
