IE problem - Please Help!!

By chriss ·
Hi All,

I am having a problem on a customers PC. The Pc refuses to print through Internet Explorer, however will print with no problems through any other app including outlook express. My first thought was reinstalling IE as I have had this problem in the past and this has solved it but this time there is no difference. I upgraded it from IE6 to IE7. I have scoured the web looking for answers but to no avail. There is also an error in that if I try to go to tools> Internet Options through IE I get an error that says I need to be an administrator to get access, however the user is the administrator and I can access it fine through control panel.

If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like Spyware or a virus

You will want to clean that PC from top to bottom. D/L some good spyware cleainging tools, at least 2 of them, and verify that the Vscan program is running with current DAT files. Then scour the machine and get rid of any programs that aren't supposed to be there. The customer should be able to help you uninstall any programs that they don't know or never use. Clean the RUN key in the HLKM and HKCU.

After you run these programs you should be able to fix the issue. You may want to warn the user, however, that if this doesn't work the only real fix is to do a clean install of the PC again. Make sure they understand that thsi will require you to format the drive and start from scratch.

One way to approach them is to be honest and say that you could spend hours trying to fix it and never find the bug or you could just start from scratch and save them some money. At some points it's cheaper for them to just go and buy a new PC.

Best of luck.
