IE properties not retained on PC’s

I have a server running MS proxy 2.0 which is used by network clients to access the web. There are PC’s running W95, W98, WinNT and W2000 accessing the web via this server.

I have noticed since adding the WinNT and W2000 PC’s that when I set theIE properties for Proxy server(under the Lan Settings tab)they are lost when the user logs off the network. When logged back in the setting has defaulted to “http:\\” meaning this info has to be re-entered each time the user logs in.

Any clues as to how I might resolve this problem? Should I be looking at the proxy server or the PC’s involved. I have tried editing the registry in various places on the PC’s without success.
