IE won't remember status bar setting

By hbartlet ·
I have NT4 SP6a and IE5 SP2 on my laptop. After I load IE I set View | Status Bar, but I have to do this each time I start IE and even when I open a new IE window. How can I make IE "remember" that I want the status bar displayed whenever I start IE or open a new IE window?

TIA... -Henry

Using regedit go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Find the string (add it if it does not exist)

Show_StatusBar

Edit the value to "yes" (without the quotes)

Reboot and you should get the status bar the next time you go into IE.

I checked the key and it was already set to yes. Just for fun, I changed it to no and now I get the status bar when I start IE. Very strange but hey, it works! -Henry
