ie6 freezes after upgrade from 5.5 sp2

By danny.cintron ·
OS is Win NT 4.0 with SP6a. After upgrading, at the home page, no page appears, an hourglass appears and no menus can be accessed. When I go to the Internet Properties and attempt to access the Connection tab, I receive a Dr. Watson error in Explorer.exe. Once I remove 6, 5.5 works fine. When I further try to remove 5.5, the option to Restore to previous Windows Configuration is greyed out. If I'm successful in removing 5.5, I get an incomplete version of the previous install which I can tell because the ie shortcut on the desktop is disassociated. I've tried reinstalling SP 6a but the same problem persists. I'm stuck at that point. Any ideas?

The Problem may have to resolved by using the utility IERADICATOR,which is free download

This is suggested because you are unable to use 5.5 plus you still have a incomplete download that is interferring with restore

THe other part to this is that you will need to check the Help menu on task bar, select About Internet Explorer to insure that you have 128 bit enscryption to access certain web sites and to have updated jave script files

Install IE before installing the service pack

If 5.5 sp2 works fine, why insist on the upgrade to 6? I would try getting a good install of 5.5 and then SP6. If that all works, I would leave it so, but IE6 may go on OK after that point. You should also check network routing and functions before the upgrade. Make your internet connection first without launching the browser. Ping some sites and check your routing. Make sure TCP/IP works good. Then make sure you have no proxy settings in your browser. Also delete your Policies key in the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version. Be sure you are and administrator when you do the upgrade.
