Every once in awhile I run into a problem that is almost impossible to
find a solution to with a carefully crafted web query.
I now have such a problem, and can only hope that someone out there has
seen this one, and found a resolution, I have seen this problem with two
clients.
Environment:
At this time each effected user ( 2 to date) has been running IE6 and
Windows 2000. This is not to say others are not effected, but this is
what I have seen to date.
Problem:
When you click on an EXE file it is displayed as ext in the borwser
window. Internet explorer IS downloading the file, but you never get the
option to Save/Open it just shows up as text in the browser screen. I
have attempted to set all Internet controlpanel options to default, and
I have run a repair on IE as well as applying the laterst Ie6 patches.
All without resolving the problem.
Known Workaround:
Go into Add/Remove programs in control panel and remove IE6 reverting
back to IE5.
If anyone has run into this problem before, or knows the solution,
please let me know.
